Amish Friendship Bread Starter

Ingredients
1 (0.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110° F/45° C)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 cup milk

Directions

In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Let stand 10 minutes.
In a 2-quart glass, plastic or ceramic container, combine 1 cup flour and 1 cup sugar.
Mix thoroughly with a whisk or fork
    .

Slowly stir in 1 cup milk and dissolved yeast mixture.

Cover loosely and let stand at room temperature until bubbly. Consider this day 1 of the 10 day cycle. For the next 10 days handle starter according to the instructions below.

    1. Day 1-4 stir it once a day with a non-metal spoon.
    2. Day 5 add 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of milk, stir together.
    3. Day 6-10 stir it once a day with non-metal spoon.
    4. On the 10th day add 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of flour and 1-cup of milk then  divide into 4 cups. You keep one cup for making bread, pass along 2 cups and keep one to start all over again. Or make 3 loaves of great breads and save the one cup to start over.
